about KHK
I have worked as an artist and illustrator, living in New York and originally from Korea. I received an MFA from Parsons school of Design in New York and MFA, BFA from Hong-Ik University in Seoul, Korea. I had solo exhibitions in New York and Seoul, Korea, and was awarded Individual Artist Initiative in Queens Council on the Art, Project Diversity in Queens Council on the Arts, fellowship at A.I.R. Gallery. I also served as a free-lanced illustrator at publishing companies such as Woongin, Kyowon, Daekyo, JEI Learning and Say Books publishers for the magazines and children’s books in Seoul, Korea.
Since I have been in New York as an artist, my works are mainly focused on the relationship formation among various communities. I was a foreigner in this society and started my new life at Sunnyside, Queens where people have various ethnicities, cultures, and religions. That means I have to adapt to tons of unaccustomed incidents and encounters with the lack of communication and understanding. However, I have learned a lot of meaningful lessons to broaden my point of view and thought, and also bumped into enjoyable episodes through living in this community. These experiences became a part of my work and life, and I have pursued revelation about understanding differences between us, and embracing our weakness and alienation through my works.
Recently, I have made some drafts for a children's book, which illustrates the beginning of the curious journey from the teeny tiny things to people in our surroundings, and explore more and more to their dream world.
